Our Collaborations

Beyond its own successful projects, IYCN partners with organizations worldwide in their undertakings. It is a pleasure for us to be part of a community with powerful outreach.

Through cooperation, we can focus our efforts to make a difference.

ChemVoices: Showcasing the Future of Chemistry

IUPAC-ChEmVoices_logo-RGB-e1592587989418

ChemVoices is the result of a partnership between IUPAC and IYCN and was created to showcase the talents and impact of early-career scientists worldwide. It is a platform to discuss issues that are relevant and of immediate concern to early-career scientists.

Following the successful unveiling of the completed table, we sought to find a way in which we could provide these talented early-career chemists with a platform to discuss matters that were pertinent to not only their careers but also the scientific community as a whole. This led to the development of ChemVoices! We are excited to showcase the talents of these early-career chemists and discuss matters that impact our community.

Global Conversation on Sustainability

The IYCN is pleased to announce the launch of a new IYCN/IUPAC joint project entitled “Global Conversation on Sustainability” (GCS). The GCS project is aligned with the goals of IUPAC and the IYCN to tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) by raising awareness and implementing sustainable practices using chemistry. It aims to connect and engage chemists and related professionals from the chemistry enterprise in taking effective actions toward sustainability by targeting the SDGs and keeping track of their progress.

IYCN and IUPAC

IYCN is an Associated Organization of the Union. The relationship means that both organizations are committed to partner together; while IYCN seeks to grow as a global network helping to advance the voice and concerns of younger chemists worldwide, IUPAC wishes to facilitate the participation of younger chemists in IUPAC through the active integration of IYCN members into IUPAC activities. Read the full list of commitments here.

The Periodic Table of Younger Chemists

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of IUPAC and the International Year of the Periodic Table, IUPAC and IYCN announce the creation of a Periodic Table of Younger Chemists. Beginning in July 2018 and ending in July 2019 at the World Chemistry Congress and IUPAC General Assembly. See the full list of elements here.

Chemists Without Borders

Chemists Without Borders (CWB) solves humanitarian problems by mobilising the resources and expertise of the global chemistry community and its networks. It is a collection of chemists and non-chemists who have the goal of making the world a better place. CWB utilizes the knowledge of chemistry to solve problems and improve the lifestyles of less fortunate people in a variety of countries. You can contact CWB through their website at chemistswithoutborders.org

CWB's Climate Change Project

Chemists Without Borders has a project to remove CO  from the atmosphere to reduce the global warming it causes. Plants absorb CO  while they are alive, but, when they die and decay, all that CO  goes back to the atmosphere. However, there are companies that have the equipment to remove the carbon from dead plants, so the return of CO  to the atmosphere is prevented. The carbon that is removed from the plants is called biochar, and CWB's project is to build up an "army of volunteers", who will promote the use of biochar so that this industry grows and enough carbon is removed from the atmosphere globally to make a difference. Contact Dr. Ray Kronquist at raykronquist@chemistswithoutborders.org for more information or to join one of their teams.
