Webinar: Science advice to policymaking: what can learned societies do to promote knowledge exchange?

Fri, Dec 16, 3-4 pm CET, Registration: http://bit.ly/science-for-policy

ree

“Science for Policy” is of strategic importance to the International Younger Chemists Network and is a core topic of one of its committees. In this webinar, Lorenzo Melchor, Policy Analyst at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), provides an overview on using scientific knowledge to improve policymaking from a conceptual perspective to practical hands-on experience. He will present the different entry points for scientific evidence into the policymaking process at the European Union level, the main challenges that exist at the science-policy interface and potential solutions. His presentation will also address the recently published Commission’s Staff Working Document on “Supporting and connecting policymaking in the Member States with scientific research”. It outlines the various European Commission initiatives to support capacity building for evidence-informed policymaking in all Member States in terms of science-policy intermediary organisations, science advice networks, policy frameworks and instruments supporting science for policy. Finally, the discussion will focus on how learned societies like IUPAC and the IYCN can help build stronger and interconnected science-for-policy ecosystems.
